Goal Setting

Happy Wednesday Sharks!

Sorry in advanced for the 3rd email today, I meant to get this out earlier this week. If you’ve been at practice then you have probably seen the blue half-sheets of paper with your swimmers. I am asking that your swimmer will be responsible for writing 4 goals total, 2 that are times based and 2 that are skills based. Once your swimmer has their goals written, I will briefly discuss their goals with them before returning their half-sheet to them. Their goals should hang up somewhere they will see it often; in their bedroom, the bathroom mirror, the kitchen fridge. I have attached the document for those that unable to come by the pool this week. Goals are due by Monday 7/7.

Setting goals is an important part of life, especially in sports. It is good to reflect on personal growth to look ahead to set goals in the future. When setting goals, it is important to be realistic but competitive. Taking videos of their races or swimming in your own time can be very valuable to show them their technique. Watching Olympic swimming can be very useful to demonstrate proper racing technique and build a love of the sport.

Swimmers will set their Swim-A-Thon lap goals tomorrow during practice. We did a time trial of sorts during practice so these numbers are guidelines for lap goals.

7 years old and under → 10-20 laps

8-10 year olds → 20-50 laps

11-13 year olds → 30-60+ laps

14 years old and up → 50-80+ laps

As always, please reach out with any questions. Tomorrow (Thursday 7/3) is our last clinic and practice for the week. No practice on Friday July 4th.
