2026 Swim LESSONS Registration
Each swim lesson session consists of 4 lessons (Monday through Thursday), 30-minutes in duration,
and includes all swimmer levels. No more than ten children will be enrolled in any class; however, a minimum of five are needed. All swimmers must be fully potty-trained.
Each session will include two or three instructors (based on the number of swimmers per session). The swimmers will be evaluated during the first class of the session and matched with an instructor for the remainder of the session.
Consistency is key - but if you must miss a class, instructors will do their best to offer a make-up (not guaranteed). If a class is cancelled due to inclement weather, a group make-up class will be scheduled directly with the instructor.
Please arrive early for lessons and be ready to start on time.
Parents/guardians must stay on-site while the lesson runs, but please keep in mind that children feel more confident to try new skills when they are being watched by their parent/guardian from a distance.
Swimmer Levels:
- Pre-Beginner – With a focus on fun water exposure and acclimation, pre-beginners will learn basic water safety. This group is not yet able to go underwater voluntarily, so swimmers will practice kicking, moving with their chin in the water, and how to enter and exit the water safely with an adult. The goal is for these swimmers to master floating on their back, blowing consistent bubbles on the surface of the water, and comfortably going underwater.
- Beginner – Water acclimation and independent movement is the focus of the beginner group. Swimmers will practice supine and prone floating, kicking independently, and other self-rescue skills (i.e. treading water). The goal for beginners is to master prone floating, kick independently for 10-15 yards, and jump into the water and swim to the wall.
- Advanced Beginner – The focus for advanced beginners is on water movement and endurance. Swimmers will practice treading water, basic stroke technique, and longer distance swims. Diving will be introduced. The goal for these swimmers is to swim independently for 25 yards (one length of the pool), tread water for 30 seconds, and control their breath to retrieve diving toys. Ideally, these swimmers will pass the Southdown lifeguard swimming test.
