Pre-Season Info

Hello Sharks!

Welcome to the Southdown Swim Team 2026 season! I am your head coach Nastya Jacobson. This will be my 9th season with the Sharks and it’s going to be a fantastic summer. My favorite time of the year is upon us and I’d like to introduce a new assistant coach to our squad, Casey Jenkins. He is the proud father of Jax and Lenni who are both young Sharks on our team. We are very excited to have Coach Casey with us as well as our returning assistants Coaches Jillian, Patrick, and Riley. As we prepare for another amazing season, there is some information that you all as parents and swimmers must know going into our first week of practice. Please make sure to take the time to read this message thoroughly.

  • There will be NO PRACTICE on Tuesday May 26th. Our pool construction is still going on, we’re waiting for the rain to clear up to finish the very last part. We are working to create a concrete plan to meet together for dryland practices in the neighborhood or nearby. A final plan for the first week of practice will be sent out by Sunday evening.
  • The first few days of practice are typically introductions, expectations, lane etiquette, and technique demonstrations. Even if we can’t get in the water it is a great opportunity for our swimmers, especially young and new swimmers, to meet everyone and break the ice before jumping in! (Literally)
  • To stay up to date on event information, weather cancellations and meet declarations, download the SwimTopia app. Any updates will be sent out via Swimtopia alerts.
  • Swimmers are required to wear goggles and a cap if their hair falls in their face. It may take some adjustment for newer swimmers. To keep everyone safe, they must be able to see where they are going.
  • Swimmers 12 & under will be required to have fins this year. Here is a link to a pair on SwimOutlet.com I do recommend shorter fins for swim practice. If they already have long fins, you can save those for recreational use. If your swimmer has their own kickboard and other equipment, have them bring it to practice.
  • PM Schedule until Thursday, June 18
    • Guppies (6U & new 8Us) 6:30-7:00pm
    • Blacktip (7-8 yo) 7:00-7:30pm
    • Mako (9-12 yo) 7:30 - 8:15pm
    • Great White (13 & Over) 8:15 - 9:00pm

If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out to me via email or catch a veteran parent on deck. Before or after practice is the best time to talk with me since my attention is on the pool during practice. We appreciate your commitment and involvement in this team over the next 8 weeks. This is going to be the greatest year yet! See you on Tuesday :-)
